Moving is Ruff

Categories: Tips

Moving into your new home is an exciting time, and there is a lot to look forward to. Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, pets can easily get stressed when they’re introduced to a new environment.

Below are a few ways to make the moving process calmer for your furry friend during the chaos of a move.

Before the Move

Locate a new vet. If your new home is out of the area, get your pet’s records and a supply of any needed medications. Ask around for highly recommended vets in your new neighborhood.

Research. Find parks and places for your pets to play.

Prepare a kit for the first few days. Pack enough food, kitty litter, toys and grooming tools to keep your pets happy during the first few days of unpacking.

On Moving Day

Feed lightly. Don’t overload on a day filled with change.

Transport your pet in your own vehicle.

Keep your pet away from the action.

Adjusting After the Move

Make your pet feel at home. Lots of attention and familiar objects like toys, food and drink bowls and blankets in similar spaces as your previous home.

Explore. Get to know the new neighborhood a little at a time, rather than all at once.

Don’t expect perfection. Pets can adapt to change, but there is a lot for them to take in. Encourage positive behavior and spend plenty of time interacting.

We hope these tips help make your move more enjoyable for you and your furry friends!
