How Long to Keep Your Files?
We are coming to the end of the year which means it’s time to organize those files and be ready for the upcoming tax season.
Everyone often asks how long tax documents and home files should be kept, well here’s your answers. There are no official guidelines for how long you should keep records for home repairs, insurance paperwork, warranties, etc. There is however recommendations from the IRS for how long to keep your tax return documents. It is recommended that you keep all documents pertaining to your taxes for at least 3 years after you file. Some states do require you to keep your documents for an even longer period of time so make sure to check with your state as well.
