As a homeowner, there are many little items that should be cleaned up and inspected every year. Many of those tasks need nicer weather but there are many tasks you can do around your home over the winter to free up time when the weather is nicer. Here are some helpful reminders of tasks you should do around your home.
• Check doors and windows for drafts. Drafts are often easily noticed in the winter. You might need to add weather stripping around doors or adjust the windows so they latch tighter to improve the drafts.
• Check smoke detectors and security alarms. Go around to each smoke detector or alarm and check the batteries to make sure they are in working order. Also, test each out to make sure they are still functioning properly.
• Check your cabinetry and hardware on them. Cabinet doors often get out of line from use and could use an adjustment to align the doors and drawers again. The hardware on the cabinets also become loose and need tightened. Take this time to adjust and tighten your cabinets.
• Get a jump start on your spring cleaning. This is the perfect time to start organizing and cleaning out closets. You will save so much time when the weather is nicer if you take a little bit of time when you are stuck inside anyways.
These items don’t take long to do but could prove very valuable for you.
